From a construction point of view, Dean says Coronet Grove is one of the most complex and challenging houses he’s ever built. “The block deserved something special and we’re proud of the outcome. There are five bedrooms, three bathrooms, two powder rooms and a 26 square basement where we keep a boat and a caravan,” he says.
The house also offers two spectacular alfresco and entertaining spaces each with their own comprehensive outdoor kitchens, as well as a Gold Class cinema standard, twelve seat home theatre.
Spotted gum timber is an outstanding feature of the house and there is 4.5kms of spotted gum decking throughout. It is also used for decorative elements including front and rear doors, internal stairs and feature walls and external cladding and fencing.
The 270-degree views overlooking Port Phillip Bay can be enjoyed from most of the house on both the upper and lower levels, and from the extensive outside decks.
The Mark Browning (cycas landscape design and consultancy) designed garden has indigenous and native planting that accentuate the masculine beauty of the house. A 16m spa and pool have windows facing the street.
The house took just over two years to build but Dean says it was worth the time and effort. Coronet Grove will stand as a testament to the skill and vision of Atkinson Pontifex for many years to come.
